City Hosts Water Forum Wednesday

The City of Davis will host a water forum from 7:00-9:00 pm, on Wednesday, September 21 in Community Chambers (23 Russell Blvd), to share information about the City Council’s recent action on water rates, and how rate revenues will be used to develop a safe and reliable water source for current and future water users.

The forum will provide an opportunity to learn more about the City’s plans and to ask questions of City staff and other professionals responsible for water supply and reliability in Davis. The two-hour session will consist of a presentation about the surface water project, an explanation of the City Council’s recent actions related to the water rates, and a chance for questions and answers.

If you have questions, please contact the City of Davis Public Works Department at 530-757-5686.

Help Set A Guinness World Record

The 2011 version of the bike parade will start in front of the Davis Odd Fellows Lodge Hall,415 Second Street, in Downtown Davis on Sunday, October 2 at 10:02 am.  Bikes will travel a gentle and slow-moving route of just under 4 miles in the effort to set a new Guinness world record. Only those registered on line prior to the parade will be permitted to ride in the parade.  Children as young as 7 may ride their bicycles in the bike parade, if registered by their parents or guardians.

Registration will close as soon as 1,500 bike riders have registered, so potential riders are strongly urged to register now.

At the conclusion of the bike parade, which should take just over one hour, the Bike Committee has scheduled a family-friendly festival in Central Park featuring food and drink, a beer garden for the adults, musical entertainment for everyone, and entertainment zones for small children as well as teenagers.   The Central Park carousel will also be open as will the US Bicycle Hall of Fame.

Get Ready for the 6th AnnualDavis Neighbors’ Night Out

Davis Neighbors’ Night Out is a celebration of our community. The event is an informal opportunity for neighborhoods to increase familiarity and communication among neighbors by way of a block party. This year’s event is scheduled for Sunday, October 9 to enable neighborhoods to include new or returning UC Davis students in the festivities. We believe that starting the academic year on a positive note will reduce the potential for misunderstandings or conflicts by opening lines of communication among all residents.

Neighbors, neighborhood associations, Neighborhood Watch Liaisons, apartment complexes, and/or homeowner associations are invited to be a “Party Sponsor.”  The sponsor will take the lead in setting up an activity such as a potluck dinner, BBQ, dessert party, ice cream social, cake bake or cookie exchange.  These activities will give neighbors an opportunity to introduce themselves, exchange phone numbers for neighborhood watch lists or future neighborhood events.  For more information, visit the City of Davis website.
