This week President Obama will deliver his third State of the Union address on Tuesday at 6:00 pm (9:00 pm EST).  Watch it live here.  Look for the President to continue a theme of civil discourse he began with remarks in Tucson on January 12th:

As we discuss these issues, let each of us do so with a good dose of humility.  Rather than pointing fingers or assigning blame, let’s use this occasion to expand our moral imaginations, to listen to each other more carefully, to sharpen our instincts for empathy and remind ourselves of all the ways that our hopes and dreams are bound together.

Speaking of hopes and dreams, Tuesday is also the deadline for submitting an application for the City Council vacancy.  As of today, five have thrown their hat into the ring: Paul Boylan, Kari Fry, Robert Smith, Daniel Wolk and Walter Bunter, Jr.  Find out more about the application process and the candidates on the City of Davis website.

This week the Legislature gets down to work on Governor Brown’s budget proposals.  The Senate and Assembly Daily Files provide the schedule of hearings.
