This Week in Your Government
Monday, January 3 – Friday, January 7, 2011
It’s déjà vous all over again. Jerry Brown will be sworn in as Governor today at 11:00 am at Sacramento’s Memorial Auditorium. You can view the ceremony live on the California Channel.
Details of ceremonies for Controller John Chiang, Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson, Attorney General Kamala Harris, Treasurer Bill Lockyer, Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones, and Secretary of State Debra Bowen are available at SacBee.com.
Also on Monday, Don Saylor will be sworn in as Yolo County District 2 Supervisor replacing retiring Supervisor Helen Thomson. On Tuesday, the Davis City Council will further refine the process for appointing Saylor’s replacement.
The Davis School Board will continue discussion of a possible spring parcel tax at their Thursday meeting. Amount and term of tax, programs to be funded, and timing on the ballot are all under discussion, as are accountability measures and differential rates for single and multi-family dwellings. The Board will also receive a report from the Parcel Tax Citizen’s Oversight Committee. More information on parcel taxes is available in our previous post, Minding Q and W and Davis Students.
