This Weekend in The People’s Republic

Hello Davis!  Now this is what blogging is really about. Our esteemed regular socialite, Lucy, is unable to be with us this glorious Friday… so, I’ve been called in at the last minute to feed you… my never-sated blogosphere! I’m now camped out at Crepeville, slurping down caffeinated beverages, frantically culling this week’s social and entertainment activities for your enjoyment.

Our days continue to be mildly hot with full sun and our evenings chilled to a satisfactory temperature by the Delta Breeze.  So, get thee outside and enjoy each other in the park, in your gardens, on bicycle, or on a day hike.  Need a little inspiration to go out and touch the sun? Need some new moves?  Well watch this video, with bass turned up, and be prepared for a funky feel-good tune from Groove Armada.

Clips of Faith [DRINK + FILM + GIVE]

Central Park

6-8pm

FREE (Beer & Food for Purchase)

I’m still unclear why “Faith” is in the title, but I’m quite certain that this beer fueled, bike-lovin’ film extravaganza will be the hot ticket for this evening.  There will also be food, music, valet bike parking… and did I mention beer?  New Belgium Brewing Company is traveling the country spreading the good word on bikes and beer.  So, alongside all of your favorite New Belgium beers, be on the lookout for tasting of rare offerings of exotic beers only available on this tour.  Please be reminded that B.U.I‘s are a very real thing and to drink responsibly.  All proceeds from beer sales will benefit two local bicycle advocacy and service organizations, Davis Bicycles! and the Davis Bike Collective.

Receiving rave reviews, you should really go check out this outdoor performance that uses a farm truck, a real bar and the setting of our big, boiling sun as part of the background set for some truly talented local actors.  Three short plays. A story about a man waiting for a bear, a young couple visiting a shop that sells memories, and a girl who loves the stars but is now afraid to look up..

The Toughcats [MUSIC]

Sophia’s Thai Kitchen & Bar

129 E Street

10pm

“With their unusual sound, a blend of old timey bluegrass, thoughtful indie rock, and classic pop twitches a la early Beatles, they bring their audience a best of both worlds scenario: timeless music that is at once unquestionably danceable and haltingly listenable.”
