This Week in YOUR Government

Our new City Council has been duly inaugurated, seated, and feted.  Now, time for them to get down to work.  Although they’ll be taking the customary August break, this Council (under the organizational leadership of Mayor Don Saylor), has already completed laying the groundwork for a very productive session.  In the past, Council appointments to various commissions and inter-jurisdictional bodies languished for months… Saylor had them done their first night.  Also, the long-range and goal setting retreat has been completed.  Two days after their seating, I saw new council members hard at work on various committees all over town.  With an action packed agenda for this Tuesday, it looks as if this Council has already rolled up it’s sleeves to do the peoples’ business.

Speaking of doing the peoples’ business, perhaps you should consider exercising your public service muscles by applying for a City commission.  Come September, every single group will have some openings.  No experience with government?  No problem.  We need enthusiastic, well-informed and thoughtful consensus builders with backgrounds in a variety of different issues.  Click HERE to find out how you can give back to Davis.
