This Hippy Weekend in the People’s Republic

Having come from Berkeley, I’ve come to realize that I have a very different opinion of “hippies” than the greater population.  While I have been exposed to the grown-up form of this counter-culture in the form of parents of friends and teachers doling out knowledge, I find that the term for a lot of people stirs up images of long hair, tie-dye, being dirty and laziness.

Your inner hippy may not be reflected by the clothes you wear or the obscure musical instruments you favor.

So, this weekend, when I say “try to embrace your inner hippy”, know that I’m talking about that part of you who loves life to its fullest, sees the beauty in the world around them, and (yes) lets their hair down a little bit.  If you don’t challenge societal norms, at least question them.  There’s too much right and relevant culture out there to not do so!

Also, this weekend is mother’s day.  So make sure you honor her too!  And if the recent revealing of your inner hippy makes her balk a little, just tell her it’s a phase.  She’ll love you no matter what!!
