A People’s Republic Weekend: V-Day Special

I tried to write a slam poem once.  It was a direct address to that cherished cherub of Hallmark Holidays:  Cupid.  It questioned what had happened to love in today’s world, riddled with reality TV shows and formulaic websites claiming to find individuals a romantic interest.  It prayed that he grant me some of his…

…home-grown, organic love

Untouched by e-pokes or compatibility algorithms.

Sure, it might not look perfect

But those wormholes are proof that it’s worth the bite

And I sure as hell come with dark spots too.

Cupid needs to keep it real.

Most importantly, it was never finished.

I don’t think I was ever any good at poetry anyway.

I’m going to have to admit to not being the biggest fan of Valentine’s.  Probably because the decorations are way too frilly for me— I’m pretty sure I’m allergic to mass-amounts of pink.

Regardless of my opinion (and in order to share some spoken word), whether you’re taken or single this time around, I want to wish everyone a happy Valentine’s Day and a wonderful weekend.
