A Holiday Green Shopping Guide

How can you commemorate the start of the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen and get your holiday shopping done?  Easy – go here.

green holidayThis page was compiled by members of the Davis Climate Action Team and concerned citizens who want to live more responsibly and details hundreds of gifts that you can give that are local and green.  There are suggestions for sustainable gifts, local experience gifts, non-profit gifts, handmade gifts and more.  In fact, the page is growing over time and will hopefully prove to be a long-standing community resource that changes over the years and holidays.

That is just one reason why it is posted on DavisWiki – anyone in the community can post a suggestion for a green and local gift.  I really like the “give an experience” category – especially when the gift means you get to spend more time with the friend or relative.  For instance, give a day of rock climbing (course and equipment included) at either Rocknasium or Outdoor Adventures or take your friend to one of the many music or theater events in Davis.  Not only are you supporting our local businesses, University or artistic groups, you save wrapping paper and may even be able to walk or ride your bikes to the event.

So, before you head out for your shopping, check out the list for suggestions and when you find that perfect item, experience, or donation make sure it is posted on the community list on DavisWiki for others to benefit.  Get two for one this holiday season- give a gift to your loved ones that’s also a gift to the planet. We hope your holiday gift giving and the Conference in Copenhagen are equally successful!
