This Weekend in The People’s Republic

Bike Forth & Political Happenings Abound

Davis Bike Collective LogoAutumn is officially here, according to the calendar. But the thermometer may still read over 100 degrees Farenheit this weekend. Hopefully, you’ll be riding your bike around town to prove that neither snow, nor heat, nor wind, nor rain shall impede your bicycle mobility.  But, be careful! There are lots of novice bike riders and auto drivers not used to sharing the road out there… don’t be afraid to shout out helpful hints to the newcomers e.g. “Stop signs are for bikers too!” or “Use your turn signals or you’ll maim someone!” … but, don’t tell them about the back tire fender, some things you have to learn the hard way.

After the jump, find our picks for an entertaining weekend in our lovely little college town.

One rarely hears this music played with such technical brilliance, stylistic authenticity and tonal sheen…Here were the throaty reeds, percussive trumpet blasts and visceral sense of swing that have made the JLCO the greatest large jazz ensemble working today. -Chicago Tribune

Davis Democratic Club

2424 Rodin Place, Home of Stephen & Robin Zouza

5pm to at least 7pm

All are welcome to this annual fundraiser for the local Democratic Club which goes to elect quality local candidates.  The party features bbq’d sausages with all the trimmings, potato salad, beverages, and dessert all inclusive for $15 a person.  The location is the beautifully landscaped backyard of Councilman Stephen Souza and his wife Robin, overlooking the Wildhorse Golf Course.  If you break out the checkbook and add a zero to the suggested amount, Stephen may be convinced to share his famous tequila collection.

Kemble K. Pope chooses to be a downtown Davisite and is proud to have been born a 6th generation Texan. He likes to garden, play with his huge dog in the great outdoors and say, "No... maybe... ok, but just a little" to folks who ask him to volunteer.
