This Weekend in The People’s Republic

Shop Davis The last weekend of August is upon us… the youngsters are  back in school… several thousand UC Davis folks are moving in, moving around and moving out of apartments and houses as the yearly lease cycle begins again… and  hundreds of our most creatively crazy residents are off to Burning Man for a playa storm of epic proportions.

Staying in Da vis for the weekend and have some free time on your hands? After the jump, find all of the deets to plan a Davis-centric staycation.

If the entire adult population of Davis (estimated at approximately 74% of the total 64,000 population), were to spend at least $30 in Downtown Davis on Sunday, August 30, nearly $1.5 million would be pumped  into the cash registers of Downtown businesses that day.  Now that’s a local economic stimulus program!  And, it’s a fantastic way to experience the increased benefit to the community of $30 spent with local retailers vs. with a “big box” store:

As much as $18 of the $30 you spend in Downtown Davis on August 30 will stay and re-circulate in Davis, vs. only $1.80 of $30 spent at a “big box”

Enjoy special Downtown savings on August 30, as participating businesses feature 30% discounts, items specially-marked at $30 or 30 cents, 30 items on sale and more.  Have fun discovering how each business will  entice YOU to spend $30 or more Downtown that day!  You’ll be rewarded with an “I Spent $30 on 8/30 – have you?” sticker to proudly wear, while supplies last.  See the list below of more than 40 participating businesses…be sure to check back often for new additions!
