Scaling New Heights

The scene: a small lake, Cumming Lake …a small cabin…a dock…a pontoon boat…a kayak…an ATV. Great food and wine accompanied with a dose of family in the form of my brother and his wife with 6 days of quality time to fill.
A vacation with no lines except the fishing kind. No texting, instead we just talked. A vacation with no TV and it’s talking heads. Instead, we discussed the topics of interest among ourselves and the loons if they cared to listen. A vacation with no stop lights or stop signs, well sort of. I did to see mini stop signs on remote snow mobile routes.
We were fortunate to spend an evening with a young astrophysicist (who was part of the family gathering) and his electronic telescope. This young man showed us galaxies that are thousands of light years away. We saw the craters on the moon and then, we looked at Jupiter which is 300 times larger then the earth.
And so, the week drifted by. We did scale new heights…heights of discovery…heights of afternoon naps on the pontoon boat … and the height of breaking away from the daily routines as we march through life.
Now we’re back home in Davis, we will alter some routines as we march on to savor the joy of our time so well spent. Home just in time for the monthly Second Friday ART ABOUT event downtown… an event not to miss.
Peaceful, beautiful country…great description of a great trip!
