Election Roundup: 7 Days Later

Let them eat wedding cake and drink Shiner Bock.

Shiner BockGreetings and salutations from across the country.  Ten hours after the polls closed on Election Day I was safely ensconced in an airplane that took me quickly away from the exhausted environs of our Right & Relevant City.  Since then, the Gmail vacation responder has been on and I’ve ignored all calls from “Dirty 5-Thirty.”

But, for those of you who don’t read The Enterprise and are wondering what happened to all of those lawn signs around town… I have results, and a little commentary for you.  For those of you that are ecstatic, angry, morose or simply bored and want me to create some pithy punditry, tough luck.

My endorsements went 3 for 6 this time around.  Following are our new (or returning) elected officials.

State Senate: Lois Wolk (won the Democratic primary)
State Assembly: Mariko Yamada (won the Democratic primary)
Yolo County Supervisor, 4th District:
Jim Provenza
Davis City Council:
Don Saylor, Stephen Souza, Sue Greenwald

After the jump, find a very small amount of commentary (a couple of little ones are begging to go play on the swing set.)

Thanks to an email from “Charlotte” that was sent a week ago but I just read, our humble little blog and your author have been the subject of some conspiracy theories and petty gossip of  from some other blog.  Apparently, we’ve even been asked to make an apology for speaking our mind.

White WeddingFirst of all, let me assure you that I was physically unable to peruse the World Wide Interwebs from 4:30am on June 4th until 7:00pm that evening as I was sleeping en route from Davis, CA to Mystic, CT via airplane.  Then, I was so busy celebrating (drinking) at my best friends’ WASP wedding (it was a nice weekend for one) that Davis politics seemed a little (ahem) boring.

So, now that I’m here on the beautiful island of Galveston, Texas with my family and the kids have finally stopped using me as a jungle gym… I’ll give you a few minutes even though my vacation isn’t officially over until next Tuesday.  But, then again, one can’t really take “vacation” from an unpaid activity.

Secondly, I stand by my endorsements and will not be recanting anything.

Thirdly, I hope that it was very clear in the text of my “non-endorsements” that all of those people have some great traits, the ability to grow into better leaders, and the possibility of gaining my trust and support… some more than others.

Thirdly, I have no desire to pontificate about why some people lost and why others won.  The voters spoke.  Let us move on with the business of governing our community in a positive and civil manner.  Let us put electoral politics behind us and concentrate on improving ourselves and our community.

Now, if you’ll please excuse me.  I have a BBQ grill to attend, Shiner Bock beer to imbibe, Republicans to bait, Obamalytes to train, and malleable little minds to open to our diverse and complex world.

Kemble Pope chooses to be a downtown Davisite and is proud to have been born a 6th generation Texan. He gardens, shuns the use of cars, likes to play in the great outdoors and fulfills his civic duty as a Commissioner on the City of Davis’ Open Space & Habitat Commission and the Climate Action Team.
