Weekend Nightlife
The nightlife scene is slower during our monsoon season, but have no fear, the cure for your seasonal depression is here.
After the jump, find a few events to help get you out of the house and rejoin the other humans.

Our Frienemy, Technology (The Robots Can't Save Us)
Yesterday, I waxed eloquent about the amazing possibilities of utilizing emerging technologies to fuel the sustainability zeitgeist.
This evening, at the kickoff event for Focus the Nation, I was reminded that technology is not our savior, just another imperfect tool.
After the jump, get the skinny on this event.
Seriously, Don't Drive Your Car
It seems as though our nation has finally reached the tipping point for cultural and political awareness of global warming pollution and sustainable living. A few politicians still have their heads buried in the sand, but even W (He-Who-Soon-Must-Not-Be-Named) is paying lip service to green technology.
However, this is just the beginning for sustainability crusaders. We have identified the problem and accepted its validity. Now we must find and enact solutions.
Participate or Stop Whining
Monday, 28 January 2008 - Thursday, 31 January 3008
As always, this week is chock-full of civic participation opportunities. Follow the "continue reading" link below for a full listing of local political and government events and a brief synopsis of agendas. As far as I know, we're the only site that is dedicated to putting all of these notices in one place at one time. Look for it every Monday morning.
After you've done your civic duty by attending ALL of these meetings, you'll deserve a worthy boon: come visit us again on Thursday for a listing of the best cultural and entertainment options that Davis has to offer over the weekend.
The New Kid in Town
Our community needs to be better engaged in an online dialogue. The newly launched Davis Voice is that vital and fair forum
Every year thousands of humans emigrate to The People's Republic of Davis. Quickly, they come to learn that our idyllic burg is unlike most rural college towns. Supporting the compact urban form, ubiquitous bicycle paths, and thriving Farmers Market is an unusually active, engaged, loquacious, and divergently progressive citizenry.
So, enter another new kid in town: The Davis Voice. We're going to lift away the thousand veils that obscure the beautiful machinery of this town. We hope to inform and entertain you with hard news, confirmed facts, insider stories and expert opinions.
To the main dish we'll apply a liberal seasoning of nightlife happenings, cultural opportunities, Dalebrity (Davis/celebrity... get it? get it??) sightings, fervent pleas for sanity and a little bit of funny.
We look forward to hearing from you as we set forth on this venture. We encourage rational and civil discourse on this site, so if you'd like to comment, please take a couple of minutes to authenticate yourself. Anonymous comments are not allowed. However, your TypePad registered screen name can hide your identity and we will protect your right to post under a pseudonym. We will not protect libelous comments or ad hominem attacks.
Please send news tips, questions and Dalebrity Sightings to: tips@davisvoice.com
Once again, welcome to a new venture that honors civility, fairness and thoughtful dialogue: The Davis Voice.
